ikea
the did you miss me team were commissioned by ikea with the brief of revolutionising the way people shop in the ikea store cardiff.
the boys developed a pda system, that helped customers navigate around the store allowing them to make purchases and collect their item at the tills. The pda system included a fully 3d map of the store, special offer section and an interactive shopping basket where the customer could review his / her purchases and see information on related items. for example cushions to match the sofa they’ve just bought. the team aimed to improve the customer flow around the store and to shorten the time spent at the checkouts.
along with this the team developed a downloadable mobile catalogue in java that was sent to customers mobile phones through did you miss me? mobile advertising system.
after meeting with the representatives from ikea unfortunately the pda system was rejected, due the idea being too radical, if this was to be implemented it would have totally changed ikeas business model. however the bluetooth system had some really positive feedback.
